Silence Event

We were truly happy with the turnout to our Silence Product Launch at Gensler's NYC office on Tuesday evening.  We set up several mini-installations of Silence to show how versatile and sophisticated this collection can be.

The designers relished the opportunity to get up close and personal with the collections... and their feedback was fantastic.  We look forward to welcoming a group of their designers to our showroom next year for one of our popular Dine & Learns.

Renovations for the New Year

This year was a fantastic year for us:  our rockstar team helped grow our business by increasing our sales by 45%; we fostered new relationships with designers, while strengthening existing ones; and we increased our brand awareness through industry events, award nominations and editorial coverage.   That said, we are excited for 2015 which we know will bring with it many new adventures.  The first being:  a facelift for our Long Island City showroom.   Renovations have just started and should be complete in the beginning of the new year!   We feel so lucky to have such an amazing space with which to work, and we promise to provide you with many after pictures once we are all finished!

Always Innovative

We chose to move our showroom to Long Island City 18 months ago because our business was expanding  so rapidly that we outgrew our TriBeCa loft.  At the time, we felt that the large lofts and wide streets of LIC reminded us a bit of TriBeCa, just a lot more off the beaten path.

Well, little did we know that we would be innovators with respect to our neighborhood, and not just our design offerings.

This past week, Queens was rated as the Number 1 tourist spot. Being dubbed as the "new Brooklyn", Queens is now THE place to be, especially LIC if you're looking for great art, food and music.   So hop on the E, M or 7 for a short subway ride (1st or 2nd stop in) to the new heart of the city!   And after you've taken in some art at MoMA P.S.1 down the street, pop on into our showroom.  There you'll see that innovation reigns supreme in Queens!

Manex Event

We had a fantastic time last week at the Manex Event in NYC, hosted by our good friend Lisa Maurer.  We have been partnering with Manex for over a year now, providing them with Bolon for their showroom as well as to use for their display at this year's Globalshop.   We can't wait to see what 2015 has in store for us together!

Hong Kong Design Week

Last week, Business of Design Week took place in Hong Kong. Sweden was the official partner country and of course - Bolon was present in many ways.  Helen and Mark were in Hong Kong to see new projects and meet with preferred installers. Bolon also participated in the design fair, and Swedish Minister for Housing and Urban Development paid a visit.

Handicraft With Ultra Modern Technology

Some inspiring images and words, from Annica in Sweden, to end this short holiday week.

"Love our production, it's the heart of Bolon - it is here the dreams comes true, our visions and ambitions comes together. Years of planning, years of dreaming, or minutes of an idea... It all comes together in here! The sounds from the machines, the visual look when a fresh new design and pattern binds together. That is creativity, handicraft and so much more in one space!"

Floor Focus Magazine

We received some amazing coverage in this months' Floor Focus magazine.  Not only were we featured prominently in this month's Designovations (our second this year),  Bolon's Studio Plank Tile was mentioned in Floor Focus' Top 250 Design Survey featured in their October Issue.  In this survey, Floor Focus asked designers what most impressed them at the summer's NeoCon World's Trade Fair in Chicago.  Our Studio Plank was singled out as being noteworthy.

In this month's Designovations, Tina Syring, owner of Syring Design, an interior design consultancy in Dallas, TX, spoke about how woven vinyl flooring is in the middle of a renaissance of sorts; it is now modern, industrial and high tech.  She goes on to highlight that not only has Bolon pioneered technology that pushes design limits, but has been active in forming partnerships with designers such as Tom Dixon, Paul Smith and Missoni.  She loves woven vinyl, and Bolon in particular, because interior designers no longer have to sacrifice aesthetics in order to address specification issues of performance, installation and maintenance.  So now flooring can become a true design element, something we at Bolon truly believe.

Interior Design Best of Year Finalist!

Bolon's Artisan Motley has been chosen as a finalist for Interior Design Magazine's Best of Year in the Flooring: Hospitality Category!  We love that one of our newest designs is receiving so much love and recognition.

Artisan is designed for larger areas and is an ideal solution for offices, hotels and other interiors.  Its mixed-weft threads offer higher levels of dirt and wear resistance while still being warm and textile-like to the touch.  Artisan’s noise absorptions characteristics also add to its popularity in environments where peace and quiet is a must - like hotels.

Click here to view our submission along side the other finalists.  Winners will be announced at a live awards ceremony held in New York City on December 4th, 2014.

Thanks for Giving

DIFFA's Thanks for Giving was a huge success.  So many people braved the cold and rainy evening to come out and raise money for a good cause.  DIFFA has handed out grants to organizations that provide amazing, and much needed, services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

This was my first DIFFA event as a DIFFA Board member, and, as the host of the event, I had to give a speech.  Looking out into the audience I was overwhelmed by the generosity and love in the room.  It is uplifting to see so many people still know that while we have made huge strides in the fight against HIV/AIDS, we still have a long way to go...and I am honored to be doing my part.
